Depression in People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
Overview

Depression and other associated Mood Disorders can affect anyone at any age. In this module we are going to focus primarily on Depression. Depression is more then just being down or out of sorts once in while. It is characterized as a disturbance in mood. It can have a huge impact on how a child, teenager, or adult moves through the day.

In the general population, about 2 -10% of people live with depression. For those with intellectual/developmental disabilities (ID/DD), it is about 1 - 3.5% which clearly means they are not immune from this potentially debilitating mental illness.

In this module we will take a look at how depression can be similar and yet different in people living with ID/DD.
